Accessibility Statement
Sportsafe UK Ltd supplies, installs and inspects sports and play equipment for schools, clubs and councils. Many of the people who buy from us work for organisations with their own accessibility duties, so this statement sets out plainly where this website stands, including where it falls short.
How accessible this website is
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. We test the site rather than assume it, and the results below come from measurement of the rendered pages, not from a review of the code.
The following are true across the page types we test, which are the home page, the shop, category pages, product pages, service pages, case studies, the contact page, account pages and these policy pages:
- Every form field has a programmatically associated label
- Heading levels run in order, with no skipped levels, and every page has exactly one main heading
- Every page has a skip link, a main landmark and a declared language
- No page contains a duplicated element id
- Interactive controls meet the 24 by 24 pixel minimum target size
- All text meets the 4.5:1 contrast minimum, including the cookie settings button, which previously did not
- The site works without JavaScript for reading and navigating, including the multi-step forms, which fall back to a single long form
- Navigation panels can be opened, used and closed with a keyboard alone, and Escape returns focus to the control that opened them
- Every form links this privacy information at the point where it asks for your details
- Long documents such as our terms and conditions carry a generated contents list, and every section has a link you can share
- The site reflows to a single column at 320 pixels with no horizontal scrolling
Where this website is not fully accessible
We know about the following and are working on them.
- Some images inside product descriptions have no alternative text. These are written by our team rather than generated by the website, so they are corrected as we work through the catalogue. Product photography added through the normal route does carry alternative text.
- Older documents. Some PDFs and other documents published before September 2018 may not be fully accessible. Where you need one of these in another format, ask us and we will provide it.
- Third-party content. Our live chat window and any embedded video are supplied by third parties and are not under our direct control. We raise problems with those suppliers when we find them.
What we have fixed
We update this statement whenever something changes, rather than once a year. Recent work:
- The cookie settings button was white on a green background at 2.99:1, below the minimum, on every page. It now uses our brand red at 5.64:1.
- Fifty-two controls were below the minimum target size, including every link in the breadcrumb trail on the shop, category and product pages. All now meet it.
- Every document in a set of four duplicated element ids on every page has been given a unique one.
- The Escape key did not close the navigation panels or the mobile menu. It now does, and returns focus to the control that opened them.
- There was no way to reach a phone number or an account from the navigation on a mobile phone. Both are now there.
- Our terms, policies and notices were previously unreadable to anyone using our new site, and are now published as ordinary web pages with contents lists and a print stylesheet.
Testing
We test automatically on every change, against the criteria that can be measured mechanically: contrast, target size, labelling, heading order, landmarks, duplicate ids and alternative text. Those checks run against the rendered page in a real browser at both desktop and mobile widths.
Automated testing cannot cover everything. It does not tell us whether alternative text is meaningful, whether an error message makes sense, or whether a screen reader user can complete a quote. We are working towards regular manual testing to cover those.
If you cannot use part of this site
Tell us and we will help, and we will fix the underlying problem. If you need information from this website in a different format, or you cannot complete something here, contact us and we will deal with it another way. There is no requirement to use the website to buy from us or to book an inspection.

We aim to reply within five working days. If you contact us about an accessibility problem, please say which page you were on and what you were trying to do, because that is usually enough for us to reproduce it.
Enforcement
Sportsafe UK Ltd is a private company and is not itself covered by the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. We publish this statement because our customers are covered by them, and because a supplier who cannot say how accessible its own website is has not answered the question.
If you are unhappy with how we respond to an accessibility complaint, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service.
